The concept design for a new office building in Limassol has been revealed, promising an instantly recognisable landmark in Cyprus’ most dynamic city.
Designed by Atkins, The Oval, which has recently received planning permission, is a sustainable development located in the heart of Limassol’s dynamic business district.
Hakim Khennouchi, Atkins' lead design director, said: "Our architecture projects around the world always aim to respond to the varying conditions and demands of climate, culture and economics. In this case, The Oval's distinctive shape was inspired by the round pebbles found on Limassol shoreline, creating a form which contrasts sharply with the cityscape to stand out as a unique, yet sustainable, address. It is a fantastic addition to our portfolio."
Atkins' flexible design allows for optimum space usage and a number of different configurations, resulting in a practical and cost efficient office environment.
All office units are divided in a way to maximise the sea views, while the layout maximises the potential for natural daylight and cross ventilation. The south facing verandas at each floor level provide sufficient shading to minimise heat gain.
The building's external envelope acts as a major component of the climate control system, helping to reduce solar gain and provide comfortable, environmentally friendly working conditions. Façades to the south and north are to be a double glazed window system for optimised solar control with horizontal overhangs on the south façade. Eastern and western facades are protected by conventional rain screen cladding system. The layout of the panels is optimised to provide minimal number of panel sizes for the entire façade.
