Oxford City Council's housing company, OX Place, has announced a new partnership with construction and regeneration specialist Equans to build 51 new sustainable homes off Sandy Lane West in Littlemore.
The development will provide a mix of 27 council flats let at social rent for people on the housing register, and 24 flats available through shared ownership. Social rent typically offers tenants around a 60% discount compared to private market rents, while shared ownership offers a more accessible route onto the housing ladder in Oxford, one of the UK's least affordable housing markets.
The homes will be built on the site of the former Northfield Hostel, a SEND school that closed in 2014 and was demolished last year. Enabling works are now set to begin, with groundbreaking expected later this summer.
The Council is also considering an expansion of the scheme, with plans in development to seek permission for an additional 10 homes on the school’s former sports field. These would follow the completion of the initial 51 flats.
Equans brings significant experience in working with local authorities to create efficient, low-carbon communities. The new homes will incorporate sustainable design and integrated energy measures to support Oxford’s drive toward decarbonisation and more inclusive housing.
