Teenager Nails Construction Apprenticeship With Lovell

A Newcastle teenager has nailed a construction apprenticeship with Lovell working on the company's new Walker Riverside development for regeneration company Places for People.

Kiran Sharman, 17, from Hadrian Park, Wallsend, has just joined the Lovell apprenticeship programme and is working towards his NVQ Level 2 qualification in carpentry and joinery with the company’s support.

Speaking as National Apprenticeship week – 11 to 15 March – celebrates apprenticeships, Lovell training manager Sharon Tyer said: "Providing local jobs and training is a key part of our work in communities and we're delighted to have been able to give Kiran this opportunity. National Apprenticeship Week promotes the positive impact apprenticeships can have. Kiran's experience shows the difference it can make to an individual and why Lovell has a long-term commitment to investment in training."

Kiran is part of the Lovell team building the 39-home Rivers Gate development for Places for People and also attends Newcastle College on a CITB-Construction Skills apprenticeship programme one day a week. His site-based experience is essential to help him gain his NVQ qualification.
