Construction workers at the Capenhurst construction project near Chester are demonstrating at the site from 6.00am today over attacks on terms and conditions by the site's owner Urenco and its contractor Jacobs.

Jacobs the company at the centre of the Lindsey Oil refinery protests, which took place in 2009, and Urenco are now attempting to renege on bonus payments and dispute resolution procedures, which are part of a key national agreement for the construction industry. The removal of the bonus payment will mean the workers will lose around £100 a week.

Unite is accusing the employers of undermining the national agreement for the engineering construction industry (NAECI). The NAECI has been in existence for more than 30 years and sets terms and conditions for construction workers.

Unite regional officer Steve Benson said: "Construction workers will be protesting today because they will not accept cuts to their terms and conditions. The removal of the bonus payment will mean the workers will lose around £100 a week. This is a blatant attempt to dismantle the national agreement which protects workers' conditions and health and safety in the engineering construction industry."
