Shepherd Construction has landed a 'double first' having secured £13 million of work for the first time in both Oxford and on London’s Oxford Street.
The contracts both involve the development of retail space – a £9 million mixed-use development on behalf of the Cooperative Insurance Society and a £4 million expansion of the Clarendon Centre in Oxford’s Cornmarket Street on behalf of Lothbury Investment Management.
The London contract will see the development of 149-151 Oxford Street and 59 Berwick Street into retail, office and residential space. The 64-week programme is due to begin this November and will capitalize on Shepherd Construction’s experience in successfully delivering challenging projects within a compact footprint and on some of the busiest routes in London.
Sustainability is an important aspect on the project, designed by architect ESA, which is targeted to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating.
The Oxford project will expand the 100,000 sq ft of retail space by 10% and enable the Clarendon Centre to remain competitive with other shopping areas within Oxford.
As part of the work Shepherd Construction will demolish one of the existing blocks and build 50,376 ft² of new units, increasing the space on offer by 12,465 ft².
The work is scheduled to complete in October 2013.
