Kier has been awarded a five-year contract to provide planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive facilities management (FM) services to approximately 400 council buildings across West Surrey.
The £3m a year contract was awarded after the council tendered its PPM and FM services at the end of last year. Before this Kier had been the incumbent contractor since 2009 for reactive and project work only. However, under the terms of this new contract, Kier will be responsible for reactive FM and PPM maintenance for various buildings in the western half of Surrey, such as adult learning centres, fire stations, schools, libraries, youth centres and care homes.
The contract also allows Kier to tender and compete for additional specialist project works. These projects cover a wide range of services including refurbishing plant rooms and boiler equipment, revamping council managed and owned building stock, providing electrical services, and working with the council to deliver energy efficiency savings.
In order to resource this work, Kier will mobilise approximately 15 multi-skilled engineers, from combustion and mechanical engineers to electricians and fire alarm and fabric engineers. Kier’s direct labour force will be backed up by its extensive supply chain network of approved subcontractors. The work and administrative support for the contract will continue to be delivered from Kier’s Southern Cross office in Basingstoke.
