Children at High View Primary School will be enjoying an official opening ceremony to mark one year since the first lessons took place in the fantastic new buildings.
Ocean sailor Conrad Humphreys will be unveiling a plaque to mark the occasion, which is taking place today, Monday 26 March, in the Space for Sports and Arts area of the school.
He will be joined by Council Leader, Vivien Pengelly, The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress, Chief Executive, Barry Keel, the new Director for People, Carole Burgoyne, along with Head teacher, Kim Dorian-Kemp and staff, governors and pupils from the school, as well as members of the Efford Community.
The event not only celebrates the £8.6 million construction project to create the brand new school, replacing former Highfield and Plym View schools, but recognises the school’s fantastic recent achievements including an ‘Outstanding’ rating from Ofsted for its July inspection, as well as the school’s recent designation as a National Support School.
The project came out of the Council's 2004 Ideas for Change strategy, which proposed a policy for dealing with surplus places and addressing the poor state of repair in primary schools, including the removal of asbestos. It was informed by the Efford Building Communities Initiative and funded by the Former South West Regional Development Agency.
It was designed by ADG, who worked on behalf of the contractor Interserve Project Services Limited - appointed to deliver the school building by the Council.
