To support specifiers in adopting the RockShell wall system, Rockwool has developed a suite of standard interface details which are designed to optimise thermal performance and provide an 'off-the-shelf' solution for delivering low energy buildings to Passivhaus standards and higher levels of the Code for Sustainable Homes.
Launched to the UK market at the end of 2011, RockShell is a modular exterior load bearing wall system which integrates high levels of insulation into its design to achieve a typical U-value of 0.143W/m2K. By simplifying installation and manufacturing the system to an exact specification, RockShell offers increased air tightness and minimised thermal bridges, as compared with traditional building methods.
Already Passivhaus certified; Rockwool is making it quicker and easier for specifiers to assess the suitability of RockShell for low energy projects by providing standard interface details for the system.
Developed in collaboration with Passivhaus specialist, ECD Architects, the standard interface details have been designed to address the specific needs of the UK market. This includes the provision of details for a range of commonly used facade and foundation interfaces, details for various roof designs as well as door and window details.
To offer further time-savings for the specifier, the details also provide pre-calculated psi values for insertion into SAP and PHP calculations.
The standard interface details are suitable for use with any building up to two and a half storeys high, helping to save specifiers time in meeting Part L standards in both domestic and non-domestic applications.
