Littlehampton's newest state school for boys and girls aged from 3 to 11 school is now completed and has opened its doors and welcomed pupils.
River Beach has been formed after amalgamating with Elm Grove Infant School, Arun Vale Infant School nd Connaught Junior School.
The main contractor Willmott Dixon constructed a new steel framed school building and carried out extensive refurbishment works to the existing buildings classrooms, group rooms, food technology and toilets.
During construction Cemplas Waterproofing and Concrete Repairs Ltd were asked to inspect voids in the first floor precast slab of the new building and using their knowledge and technical expertise in problem-solving propose to a cost-effective solution to the problem.
Having submitted a cost-effective solution Cemplas were appointed to undertake the work. Cemplas firstly removed all loose concrete and rubble to the infill's, installed new steel reinforcement followed by pre-wetting the areas and filling the voids with Weber Cemgrout repair concrete. The grout was mixed in large mortar mixers and gravity poured in by hand. Cemplas formed a shutter all the areas underneath the slab including the slab edges to ensure that grout was not lost and kept within the defined repair areas ensuring a net and uniformed pour. Expanded foam was also used to ensure the grout stayed in place and did not travel down the hollows and open areas.
On completion of the grouting work Cemplas struck all shuttering and a survey was carried out by Cemplas surveyors to ensure all voids on the precast slab had been completely filled to the satisfaction of the main contractor.
