Tigers Submit Planning Application

Castleford Tigers chief executive Richard Wright has hand delivered a detailed planning application to Wakefield Metropolitan District Council in their quest to secure the go-ahead for a new stadium at Glasshoughton.

Tigers club captain Ryan Hudson was also in attendance with Alan Powell from architects Ramsden & Partners to present the detailed planning application document.

They were joined by a large number of Tigers fans at Wakefield MDC Planning Office who witnessed the submission of plans for a proposed 13,300 capacity stadium at Glasshoughton on Junction 32 of the M62.

The planning application submission follows recent developments in the Tigers' pursuit for a new stadium including confirmation of £2m funding from Wakefield MDC.

The granting of planning consent by Wakefield MDC Planning Office is the next key milestone in the delivery of the stadium for 2012 and a decision is expected before the end of March.

Mr Wright said: "This is a significant moment in our quest for a new stadium at Glasshoughton and a great deal of hard work and dedication has led us to this point.

"Working with Ramsden & Partners I am extremely confident that the detailed plans we are submitting today will provide us with the consent we need and keep us on track to meet the Super League License timescales.

"This is what is termed a reserved matters application which is really a follow up to the outline planning permission we were granted some time ago."

Yvette Cooper MP for Normanton, Pontefract, Castleford and Knottingley added: "This is a really important step. We need the planning details agreed as fast as possible to keep up the momentum for the new stadium.

"We hope this will go through as soon as possible. Everyone knows Rugby League is at the heart of Castleford and it is really important we get the new stadium.

"The Super League timetable is getting closer, but everyone is working really hard to deliver the stadium."
