Regeneration Plans For Basing View Gather Pace

Basingstoke and Deane council will begin its search for a partner on Monday 1 November to drive forward plans to regenerate and transform Basing View.

The council will launch its bid to find a high profile development partner to develop five sites it owns in the town centre business park over the next 10 to 15 years at a national property conference, the Property Week Public Property Summit.

The plans for the Basing View area include a mixture of office space, hotels, leisure facilities and shops.

It is hoped the preferred bidder will be named by next July.

Among the five sites the council is looking to develop are City Wall House and Loddon House, which are currently being demolished. The works, which have been funded through the Government's Growth-Point programme, started in the summer and both buildings will be demolished by April 2011.

Cabinet member for Finance and Property Cllr James Lewin said: "The appointment of a leading strategic development partner is central to the council's key objective to regenerate Basing View. It provides an opportunity for an accomplished and visionary development partner to re-position the town centre business park.

"Basing View's regeneration is recognised by all councillors as an important growth opportunity for Basingstoke and will position the town to compete more effectively for jobs and inward investment as the national economy recovers."
