Lambeth Starts Second Schools Phase

Lambeth Council's Building Schools for the Future (BSF) team is poised to enter the next phase of its £200 million schools investment programme.

The contract to deliver the second phase of the BSF programme will be awarded to either Engage or Willmott Dixon Construction, following eight months of intensive negotiations between the authority and the two bidders. The BSF team and its advisors will now evaluate the proposals and a final decision will be made by Lambeth cabinet in April. The successful bidder will form a strategic partnership to be known as the Local Education Partnership, which will also include Lambeth Council and the Government.

The dialogue has involved the construction companies working alongside Lambeth Council and two 'sample' secondary schools - Dunraven and The Norwood School. Both schools will be the first to be transformed when the second phase begins in August.

Cllr Paul McGlone, Lambeth Council Cabinet Member for Children and Young People's Services, said: "Lambeth's BSF programme is recognised nationally for creating some of the best schools in the country. Children and young people in Lambeth deserve nothing less. That is why, as we move to the next phase of our school building programme, I am really pleased that the council's award winning team will be delivering projects that will be nothing less in their scale of ambition and vision for the young people in this borough."
