Geo-Development Services (GDS) has launched its new 3D Laser Scanning Service.
With the utilisation of the latest technology that is capable of capturing nearly a million measurements a second with an accuracy of 2 millimetres, which creates 3-Dimensional images. The 3D images known as Point Clouds provide a high-definition digital model in the fraction of the time it would have taken using traditional survey methods for recording.
This high definition service provides endless possibilities for designers, engineers and academics to precisely model physical objects in the digital world. Thus providing the ability for detailed analysis of as-built, reverse engineering, structural monitoring, rapid prototyping and digital archiving with 3D models, images and fly-though video. With the added advancement for high resolution colour photographic images to be draped over the point clouds.
Utilising a suite of software the point cloud models can be efficiently and accurately exported into CAD format for 2D and 3D inspection and design review. With the provision of reporting and deviation colour maps this method enables a quick turnaround time for design changes, inspection, analysis and in-depth assessment.
