It emerged over the weekend that two workmen died after a tipper truck they were working in touched an overhead power cable.

The pair, from Cheshire, were electrocuted, according to police.

However, another man, who was driving the vehicle, was unhurt when the accident happened at 2.15pm on Friday afternoon at Booth Lane, Middlewich.

Police said it appeared the lorry's tipper section touched electrical cables when raised to remove material for road surfacing.

The two men, in their forties, were working in the back and had injuries suggesting electrocution.

A Cheshire Police spokeswoman said: "Two men who are both in their 40s, and local, were at the rear of the lorry and received injuries which were fatal at the scene. The driver of the lorry, a 54-year-old man from Derbyshire, was not injured."

After the two workers' next of kin were told, the Health and Safety Executive and police began a probe, but said no further information will be released at this stage.
