Leading builder, Rok has won a contract to maintain thousands of council homes in St Albans.
The company will carry out routine maintenance work at more than 3,460 homes managed by St Albans City and District Council, and provide an emergency call out service.
As part of the eight-year framework, Rok will employ local skilled people to join its own team of technicians.
The teams will use the latest real-time technology to book future appointments with tenants and allow St Albans City and District Council to see exactly which job is being carried out and where.
A special hand-held device carried by the technician allows them to receive accurate diagnosis diagnostic information direct from the call handlers. This should greatly improve the quality of service provided to residents.
It is the first time council tenants in St Albans district will benefit from this technology.
Mike Costello, Area Maintenance Leader for Rok, said: "We are delighted to be given the chance to work closely with St Albans District Council to help bring real improvements for residents and the community as a whole.
"We will use our considerable experience as property repair and maintenance specialists to ensure they receive a first class service. We take a pride in becoming part of the communities in which we work and we are looking forward to meeting everyone.
"As we do in other areas across the country, we will be recruiting locally and offering a range of opportunities for work experience and training."
The framework agreement will see Rok handle the north and central housing areas of St Albans district for the council. The work will ensure council homes are maintained to an excellent standard.
