BAM Nuttall commissioned Foundation Piling Limited to design and construct a 136m length contiguous bored pile retaining wall on the former Vosper Thorneycroft yard, which has been demolished.
The contract was for work on the North Eastern edge of the site, for 750mm diameter piles to a maximum depth of 15 metres.
Foundation Piling Limited were category winners for the ICE South East England - Environmental Projects, for the work carried out.
Foundation Piling Limited completed the work in a five week period using a Soilmec SR30 piling rig, with continuous flight augers.
The sequence of working was agreed so that the capping beam could be methodically constructed as a follow on.
Subsequent work on the site was awarded to Foundation Piling Limited. This includes displacement piles and raking grouted ductile piles. These are adjacent to an existing crane beam, to support a cantilever slab. The 510mm displacement piles produce a very limited amount of spoil for removal, making this an ideal solution for work on contaminated sites.
The ductile piles are driven at a rake between the bored piles and are designed to take a vertical and lateral load.
