Metrotile is proud to announce the achievement of ISO14001 for the manufacturing processes utilised in the production of their lightweight steel roofing systems.
To achieve this highly regarded certification the Metrotile factory in Tongeren, Belgium underwent many strict tests and examinations in a number of key areas. This includes the use of recycling systems on site to the reduction of fuels used and waste generated. The standards were met by using new manufacturing equipment that require less energy to power, a new logistic arrangements to reduce internal transport and fuel use and the implementation of new methods to reduce health and safety risks for the workforce. There are also stricter rules regarding the handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals and waste, including the training staff of a new system designed to minimize accidents involving such products.
The Metrotile plant's jewel in the crown is the recently installed, highly advanced wastewater recycling system that ensures all water used for manufacturing can be captured and renewed. Despite receiving ISO14001, Metrotile refuses to rest on its laurels and is committed to continuous improvement of its manufacturing processes. Further recycling equipment will be installed during the next twelve months.
