Residents of a Camden estate are reaping the benefits of a pilot for a new heat metering system, giving them more control of when and how they use their heating.

More than one hundred and fifty households in Kiln Place, Gospel Oak, had their old warm air systems replaced with new radiators, heat meters and controls. This means that for the first time residents have more control over their heating and hot water.

The Council estimates that at Kiln place alone, 38 tonnes of CO2 could be saved annually. To ensure this happens, the Council has provided one to one advice to residents to help them make the best use of their new heating system.

Mrs Wheeler, a tenant of Kiln Place, Gospel Oak said: "In April 2009 we had a new heating system fitted. I can control when the heating and hot water comes on and off and I can also control the temperature in each room. I have the heating and hot water on a key which I can easily top up at the local shop. It has four pounds emergency money on it, just in case you run out.

"It's just wonderful. After 47 years of warm air heating there's no way I would go back."
