John Sisk & Son Ltd (Sisk), one of the largest construction groups in the UK and Ireland, has been appointed by Battersea Dogs & Cats Home to build a new cattery for its London location.
The £3.9m project will involve the construction of a new, highly sustainable, four storey building featuring reception and waiting areas, meeting rooms and 83 pens with preparation areas and staff rooms. Sisk will also be constructing an extension to expand existing clinic facilities. The building has been designed by Charles Knowles Design, Architects.
The building will be curtain-walled, with windows specifically sized and located for the cats, making the most of natural light and providing a pleasant environment for its feline residents as they await new owners. The cattery is the 3rd purpose built home that the charity has recently opened, following new catteries at the other sites at Brands Hatch and Old Windsor.
Completion is due for July 2010 following a 52 week build programme.
Mike Higgins, Director Southern Region, Sisk commented: "The Battersea Dogs & Cats Home is close to many hearts and minds, so the contract win is great news for Sisk twofold. We look forward to commencing work on site for the new facility, which when completed we hope will help find many animals new owners and will continue to propel the charity in its good work."
