Councils Provide Private Landlords With Tips

Two local councils in the United Kingdom have decided to extend a hand to private sector residential landlords, in order to address some of the challenges they face due to the difficult economic climate and frugal lending conditions.

Gloucestershire is organising a so-called "Landlord Expo", scheduled for 16 September 2009; an event that has become somewhat of a local annual tradition. Held at the local Rugby Club, the event will allow landlords to hear presentations on issues concerning renewable energy and efficiency, as well as tips on how to get through the recent dramatic drop in residential property values. Gloucester's Landlord Expo will also touch on a very current and contentious theme, namely the issue of landlord licenses and databases. In addition to listening to presentations, participating landlords will also have an opportunity to meet one-on-one with buy-to-let industry experts.

The Gloucestershire event is based upon tight cooperation with the Tewkesbury council, as well as a handful of district-level councils.

East Renfrewshire's local council is also organising a forum for residential landlords on 3 September 2009, although this one will focus very heavily on issues related to gas safety, energy and environmental concerns. The Gas Safe Register will be represented at the event and John Stirling will give a presentation on landlord responsibilities concerning gas safety, while there will also be room for a discussion of the area’s landlord registration programme.
