Last Chance For Communities To Get A Slice Of New £2m Energy Fund

Local groups in need of cash and expertise for ambitious community energy projects still have time to apply for a share of a £2 million energy fund as part of the nationwide British Gas Green Streets campaign.

The campaign, backed by conservationist and explorer Ben Fogle, aims to encourage innovative and green energy projects in the heart of British communities. The deadline for applications is 31 August.

Mr Fogle, said: "With only two weeks to go, now is the time for local communities to apply to the Green Streets energy fund. The funding will give local people the chance to set up and run their own energy saving schemes that will benefit entire communities. So if you're looking at ways to help your community save energy and save money, Green Streets could give you a helping hand."

Any community group, with a focus on local renewable energy projects or energy efficiency improvements for both community and domestic buildings, can apply for Green Streets funding. This can range from solar, wind, or hydro power to biomass, ground-source and air source heat pumps. So far, applications have come from a variety of different groups from the length and breadth of the UK.

Projects will be judged according to their potential for energy efficiency savings across the entire community, on local renewable power generation, and ability to engage an entire community through education in local schools and by mobilising the support of other local residents.
