Stoke-on-Trent City Council Cabinet members rejected a recommendation yesterday to amend multi-million pound plans to transform city secondary and special schools.

Councillors sitting on the authority’s Children and Young People’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee had asked for plans to link Mitchell High School with Edensor High School to be changed. They instead wanted to join Berryhill High School and Mitchell High School to form a new community school on the Mitchell high site.

Cabinet members discussed the recommendation as an urgent item at a meeting this afternoon. The decision to turn down the recommendation means £250 million plans to transform secondary and special schools in the city, including building five brand new academies, will continue.
