The international engineering, construction, investment and services Group, Balfour Beatty, has announced that it has been selected as one of Stoke-on-Trent City Council's two design and build partners for their £250 million Building Schools for the Future programme.

The contract involves the delivery of the city's major investment programme covering the building and refurbishment of the secondary and special schools throughout Stoke-on-Trent, including five new-build academies.

Balfour Beatty Chief Executive, Ian Tyler said: "We are delighted to have been selected by Stoke-on-Trent City Council as one of their partners to provide world-class teaching and learning environments for all pupils, teachers and communities.

"This contract will create training and employment opportunities for both Balfour Beatty in Stoke and our well-established local supply chain."

Work on the construction project is scheduled to commence in Autumn 2010.
