Kier Western has been awarded a contract to build the £6.4 million Nant Celyn Primary School in Torfaen.

The single-storey building, which will replace Brookfield and Hollybush schools when it opens in September, is the first primary school to be built by Torfaen Council since its formation in 1996. It will have space for 420 children and will offer a high-tech environment for both teaching and learning.

The name Nant Celyn, which means Hollybrook in English, was chosen by Hollybush Primary School pupil Nathan Corbin who won a competition run by Torfaen Council to name the new building. His prize was to join Kier Western for the turf cutting ceremony and cut the first sod.
