People in the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales will be able to recycle closer to home when Derbyshire County Council opens its new recycling centre next Thursday 6 August.
The centre is part of a £6m recycling complex being built on Waterswallows Road, Buxton, taking the total number of recycling centres in the county to eight.
It will make life much easier for local people to recycle in addition to the doorstep recycling collection schemes provided by High Peak Borough and Derbyshire Dales District Councils.
Councillor John Allsop, Derbyshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Technology and Recycling said: "This is the first phase of a fantastic new modern facility which will not only meet the needs of residents now but in the future.
"Our new centre will make recycling much more convenient for local people and help reduce, even further, the amount of rubbish sent to landfill."
The centre will handle up to 6,000 tonnes of rubbish each year where it will be separated and most of it reused, recycled or composted.
Residents can take a range of household items there for free including furniture, electrical items, carpets, bed linen and wood.
Paper, cardboard, glass, plastics, engine oil, batteries and up to 50kg of rubble and soil are also accepted.
Work on the second phase of the development to build an indoor composting plant next to the recycling centre is due to start soon.
It will deal with up to 10,000 tonnes of kitchen and garden waste from homes in the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales.
