Costain Scoops Supreme Award

The Costain Group won the Supreme Award at the Construction News 2009 Quality Awards last night.

The Supreme Award is given to the construction company which records the best overall Awards performance and Costain was short-listed six times and won two categories - Training and Corporate Social Responsibility.

The Awards night underlined, through respected third party assessment, the progress which Costain has made in both Training and Corporate Social Responsibility and the level of commitment and focus the Company devotes to both areas.

Construction News reported: "With regard to Training, Costain Group's commitment to the international skills agenda was notable by it being the first construction company to sign the Leitch pledge at national level when it launched in 2007.

The Award Judges said: "An excellent forward looking academy approach for its project management needs, which accurately measures and stretches people to reach full potential, demonstrating a real focus of developing and supporting the participants throughout the entire process."

Construction News, in describing Costain's award winning Corporate Social Responsibility performance, stated: "Costain says Corporate Social Responsibility defines the way it does business and strives to fully integrate such principles into every aspect of its business.

"Last year, its employees, in partnership with Business In the Community, helped rejuvenate a playground at Katesgrove primary school in Reading. As well as volunteering time, the Company provided materials and equipment to repaint walls, replant shrubs and erect a pergola, all of which provided a more pleasant environment for the pupils."
