Mansell has been awarded a £5.7 million contract for the design and construction of 36 new homes at Lyme Grove, Loddiges Road in Hackney, London, for Islington & Shoreditch Housing Association.
The contract has been awarded under the North River Alliance framework.
The contract will involve the demolition of an existing building and the construction of an eight-storey tower housing 27 one, two or three-bed flats and a row of nine townhouses, comprising three and four bedroom homes. Ten units will be available for intermediate and the remaining 26 will be for affordable rent.
The scheme has been designed to achieve Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. Part of the electricity required by the tower will be generated through photovoltaic panels and the townhouses will feature air source heat pumps and a partial green roof.
Demolition will commence on site this month with construction scheduled to begin in mid-July. The project is due to be completed in October 2010.
