Harworth Estates, the property division of mining company UK COAL, is the first major business in the Yorkshire and Humber area to back an initiative by The Prince's Trust focused on developing the skills of young people needed to support the construction industry.
The Prince's Trust helps change young lives in the UK through practical and financial support, developing skills as well as confidence and motivation.
This year, the young charity aims to support 3,500 14-30 year olds across the Yorkshire and The Humber, who have struggled at school, been in care, have a history of long-term unemployment or have been in trouble with the law.
The Trust has established a network of national sector-based Leadership Groups, with Harworth Estates being the first to 'sign up' from the Yorkshire and The Humber region to support the national Construction and Business Services Group, which focuses on upskilling disadvantaged young people for careers in construction and related industries.
Director of The Prince's Trust, Yorkshire, Peter Branson said: "We believe the Leadership Groups, focusing on specific areas of industry and commerce, will play an important part in encouraging young people to develop the skills needed for the regeneration of the communities in which they live. We are delighted UK COAL, through its property arm Harworth Estates, are supporting this initiative, the importance of which will become more apparent as the economy progressively recovers."
