A scheme that helps those facing barriers to employment learn construction skills drew to a close recently with a Community Day held at YMCA Nottingham. Fifteen jobseekers from the local area showcased their newly acquired skills in painting and decorating to renovate two of the YMCA's classrooms.

The jobseekers have been taking part in a week long Building Futures scheme run by Wates Living Space, one of the UK's leading affordable housing contractors in Nottingham. The scheme teaches jobseekers a range of construction skills and return to work guidance.

Ian Calder, Framework Manager for Wates Living Space, East Midlands explained: "Building Futures is a key part of our commitment to Nottingham and clearly supports our values of respect for people and communities. Our programme allows those facing barriers to employment to acquire new skills and experience to enable them to find sustainable employment, education or training. The enthusiasm showed by the delegates was second to none and we will continue to support them into their chosen route."
