Barnsley Council has adopted its first Development Plan Document (DPD).

The DPD is the first of a number of new planning documents being prepared as part of the Local Development Framework (LDF) which will eventually replace the current Unitary Development Plan.

The Barnsley Education Sites DPD has been subject to four separate rounds of consultation and allocates land for the development of three Advanced Learning Centres at Royston Lane, Carlton, Pitt Street, Darfield and Engine Lane, Shafton, and sets out mitigation measures that are relevant to their development.

Cabinet Spokesperson for Development, Cllr Bill Newman said: "The Barnsley education sites development plan document facilitates the development of three new advanced learning centres that are key elements of the council’s Remaking Learning strategy.

"It is also the first of a number of very important Local Development Framework DPD's that will be produced by the council."
