Council Calls On Residents To Be 'Gas Safe'

Surrey County Council's Trading Standards team is calling on residents to make sure they look for the new Gas Safe registration card when booking a gas engineer.

CORGI was replaced by the Gas Safe Register as the UK's official safety body on 1 April and it now oversees the safety of gas installations. Anyone carrying out work on gas must be registered with Gas Safe Register. If not, they are breaking the law.

Peter Denard, Head of Surrey Trading Standards, said: "When checking your engineer's card look for the yellow Gas Safe Register triangle. If in doubt, keep them out. Anyone carrying out work on gas must be registered with Gas Safe Register. If not, they are breaking the law and putting you and your family at risk.

"The dangers of using an unregistered engineer could be fatal, with poorly installed or maintained equipment leading to gas leaks and the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning."
