An independent report has found Arun District Council is providing a 'fair' housing service with promising prospects to improve further.
The Council has accepted the 'fair' one-star rating from the Audit Commission following its Strategic Housing Assessment, which covered homelessness and housing advice, private sector housing and work to deliver new housing, including affordable homes.
The Commission highlighted a number of positive aspects in its report, including the use of good quality information to develop housing strategy, effective regulation of housing conditions in the private rented sector, and a greater number of affordable homes.
However, it was also highlighted that the homelessness and housing strategies for the area required improvement.
Councillor Robin Brown, Arun District Council's Cabinet Member for Housing, said the Council was addressing the issues raised.
He said: "We are already preparing an improvement plan which is intended to address the weaknesses highlighted in the Audit Commission report.
"We are confident we can deliver the improvements recommended by the Audit Commission and are looking forward to successfully meeting the challenges ahead."
