Landlords and potential landlords will have a chance to find out more about the issues that may affect them when renting out properties, at an annual landlord open evening to be held on Tuesday, 28 April.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council's Housing Services division is holding the Landlords' Forum in association with the University of Glamorgan at the University's Glamorgan Business Centre, Treforest.
Cllr Paul Cannon, Rhondda Cynon Taf Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Housing, will open the evening, which has become a regular date in the diaries of many landlords operating in the area. Last year, more than 120 landlords attended.
This year, there will be a range of presentations including one on the All-Wales Landlord Accreditation Scheme that has just been launched by the Welsh Assembly with the support of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and other local authorities in Wales. The scheme aims to recognise and promote responsible landlords.
Police officers will also be on hand to offer landlords practical advice to prevent their properties being used for criminal activity such as illegal drug use. Interactive workshops will give landlords an opportunity to discuss the support available to both tenants and landlords from the Council and its partners, as well as the new fire safety rules that are applicable to all rented properties.
Exhibitors at the event will include representatives from the new Gas Safe register - which replaced CORGI this month - as well as representatives from the National Landlords' Association, RCT Planning and Building Control, RCT Trading Standards, housing benefit advisers and many more.
