A £5.67 million primary school in Derbyshire has opened its doors in preparation for pupils beginning lessons there next month.

Cutting edge facilities at Sharley Park Community Primary School have been officially opened by Councillor Joyce Sanders, chair of Derbyshire County Council.

Pupils aged five to 11 years will attend the purpose-built school, off Pilsley Road, from April 23.

The single site school replaces Clay Cross Infant and Nursery School, Clay Cross Junior School and Danesmoor Infant School. It includes:

• Large classrooms and school hall
• Fully integrated computer facilities throughout the building
• An air-conditioned ICT suite
• A school electronic library
• A spacious playing field, playground, games courts and environmental areas

Councillor Charles said: "It's a wonderful new chapter for the children and communities of Clay Cross and Danesmoor.

"The state-of-the-art facilities offer a fantastic environment where pupils can reach their potential and really enjoy their education."
