Youngsters in Lincoln will soon have a world-class youth centre to call their own after a successful government funding bid has brought in £4.82m for the project.
Although a location for the project has not been decided, one area for development has been earmarked off Tritton Road. The new venue for young people will be called 'The Showroom' and is expected to open by next March.
It will be run by the YMCA and include a gym, climbing wall, cyber café, recording studio, gaming facilities, performing arts centre and dance classes.
Councillor Christine Talbot, Executive Councillor for Secondary Education and Healthier Communities, said: "This is fantastic news for young people in Lincoln, and a great example of how partnership working can really make a difference.
"Our bid ticked all the boxes, focusing on attractive and safe things for young people to do, targeting more young people - particularly the most disadvantaged - towards positive activities, and offering a wide range of exciting high quality sports, arts, music and youth work based activities. It's a real positive step forward in terms of provision for young people."
