Sustainability experts BioRegional are looking for a roof in London that they can use for a six-month trial of new green roof technology.

The trial, being carried out with WRAP and Enviros, will use 100mm deep trays that rest on the roof top. The roof would need to have accessible space of at least 8m x 8m, or equivalent area, and have a slope of no more than 10 degrees. The roof needs to be safe for up to 15 people to access at a time.

The trial will run for six months, between March 2009 and August 2009. During this period, access to the roof will be required, at most, on a fortnightly basis for monitoring.

The project will research and monitor the use of PAS 100 certified compost as a component of green roof substrate. This work will investigate the interaction between compost and non-organic materials, together with its influence on plant growth.

Green roofs offer a range of environmental benefits; including supporting and promoting biodiversity, increased insulation and roof longevity, and reduced storm water run-off.
