On 9 February Cherwell District Council's Executive agreed to submit a proposal to Oxfordshire Primary Care Trust (PCT) to build a new Bicester Hospital.
The PCT have called for expressions of interest to develop replacement facilities for Bicester Hospital. Previously, the Council has offered the PCT to build and lease back these facilities on land earmarked for this type of use at south west Bicester.
Councillor George Reynolds, Cherwell's portfolio holder for community, health and environment said: "A new Bicester Hospital is a key piece of the infrastructure jigsaw of the town. Meeting the current and future health needs of the growing population, in terms of age and numbers, is critical. We recognise this fact and are willing and able to play our part supporting the PCT in providing the best quality and widest range of healthcare services. We believe that the land allocated for this purpose at south west Bicester is the best location to offer scope to develop now and over time a wide range of health care services."
