The Education Minister Jane Hutt visited three schools in the Wrexham area that are to benefit from a £24 million funding package to support small capital work and refurbishment programmes at schools.
Ysgol Bryn Alun, Maelor School and Darland High School will receive a combined amount of £5million for school building improvements, which could provide much needed support for Welsh construction during the trying economic downturn.
The £5m has been made available through the Welsh Assembly Government's Strategic Capital Investment Fund. The investment will support the authority in providing a range of different facilites at the schools including new science blocks, sports halls, libraries, music facilities, IT suites and much need community facilities. An additional £636,000 has been awarded to the schools from the School Buildings Improvement Grant, and new toilets were under construction at Ysgol Bro Alun during the Minister's visit.
Minister for Education Jane Hutt said: "We are continuing to provide capital investment as promised in One Wales to improve educational facilities in Wales, to provide buildings with modern facilities for both teachers, pupils and for the wider community. By ensuring that our children and young people have access to the very best facilities, in an environment that supports their studies, we are also ensuring that Wales can lead the way in education and training."
