Game On For Chesterfield's New 3G Football Pitch

The new 3G football pitch at Queen's Park Sports Centre in Chesterfield has been officially opened by Chesterfield Borough Council.

The new facility replaces the outdoor multi-use games area that closed in 2007. The facility includes a 3G artificial grass surface, filled with rubber crumb, which cushions joints and is the closest surface to actually playing on grass, new fencing, spectator area, upgraded floodlighting and new goal posts.

The facility was constructed with the help of grant funding of £45,500 from the Football Foundation the UK's largest Sports Charity, £10,000 from the Chesterfield Community Safety Partnership and £10,000 from the Viridor Credits and Section 106 grant.

Representatives from the Football Foundation, Chesterfield Borough Council and Viridor were joined by Lee Richardson, Manager of Chesterfield FC and some of the players to help launch the new facility.

Cllr Keith Morgan, Lead Member for Healthy Communities and Leisure said: "This is a terrific addition to the leisure facilities offered by Chesterfield Borough Council and gives local people access to a first class pitch to play and practise on.

"Our thanks go to all the partners who helped with the project, without their support and financial contribution this wouldn't have been possible."
