The Greater London Authority has appointed Fiona Fletcher-Smith as Director of Development and Environment.

This post will help to deliver some of the Mayor's key priorities including major projects like Crossrail and the Thames Gateway, aiding London's economic recovery through the current downturn, the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, the London Plan and tackling climate change.

Fiona is currently Corporate Director of Neighbourhoods and Regeneration at the London Borough of Hackney, one of the key London boroughs preparing for the delivery of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012.

Leo Boland, Chief Executive of the Greater London Authority, said: "I am thrilled that Fiona Fletcher-Smith is joining us at the Greater London Authority as Director of Development and Environment.

"Fiona brings with her a wealth of public sector experience most recently working for a borough at the heart of the preparations for the London Olympic and Paralympic Games.

"Fiona will play a central role in helping to deliver the Mayor's ambitious programmes across prominent policy areas notably work on economic recovery, major infrastructure, waste management, transport, the 2012 Games and the redrafting of the London Plan.

"I look forward to welcoming her on board as we tackle the challenges ahead."
