Residents will have chance to see plans for three new schools to be built as part of a £750m transformation of secondary education in Derbyshire.

Six schools will be replaced or rebuilt by Derbyshire County Council in phase one of the Government's Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.

The Equitix consortium - which includes local design and construct partners Bowmer & Kirkland and GF Tomlinson - has been chosen to carry out work on the six which are Bolsover, Heritage, Springwell, Stubbin Wood, Shirebrook and Netherthorpe.

Planning applications have been submitted this week to build new schools at Bolsover, Heritage and Springwell. Councillor John Williams, leader of Derbyshire County Council, said: "These are exciting times for the future of education in Derbyshire.

"The new schools will be at the heart of communities - offering enormous benefits to pupils and local people by providing incredible opportunities.

"We’d like to welcome as many residents as possible to the open evenings to see how the new facilities will benefit them and their children."

All six schools in the first phase will be rebuilt or refurbished by 2010.
