Health Minister Edwina Hart has announced that she has approved a bid from Conwy Local Health Board (LHB) for Assembly funding for a new primary care centre to be constructed in Llanrwst.
The new centre, bringing together a range of healthcare services, will be based on the site of the former grammar school in Llanrwst, replacing the current Scotland Street surgery.
The new centre will co-locate the GP practice with an increased range of other community based health and social services on a single site.
Ms Hart said: "This new development, supported by Welsh Assembly Government funding, will ensure that a range of high quality healthcare is provided closer to people's homes in the Conwy area.
"The funding will allow an expansion of services and enable the staff to serve more of the local population. It will also make a wider contribution to training new medical staff, good news for the NHS in Wales."
The centre is expected to be open by November 2009.
