Miller Construction (UK) Ltd has been selected as the main contractor for the £23 million new headquarters for North Tyneside Area Command.
The 24 month contract will see the provision of state-of-the-art accommodation for approximately 275 people, including police officers, community support officers and police staff, as well as a large custody suite with 40 modern cells. Enabling works on the six-acre site in Middle Engine Lane, Wallsend will commence shortly with the main build starting in May 2009.
Ian Jubb, Regional Director, Miller Construction North, said: "We are delighted to have been awarded the contract to build the North Tyneside Area Command Head Quarters for Northumbria Police. This is a prestigious job which will have huge benefits for the local community and provide the force with facilities befitting of the excellent service that they provide."
Chief Superintendent Steve Storey, North Tyneside Area Commander, said: "Now that a contractor has been appointed the real work on site can begin.
"We believe this new police headquarters will meet our demanding specifications and these facilities will enable us to continue to provide excellent policing services for the people of North Tyneside in the future."
