Rok Stonecare Starts Work At Three Power Stations

Rok Stonecare is carrying out work at three of the UK's largest power stations as part of an ongoing relationship with British Energy.

The specialist concrete repairs team is currently on site at Hinkley, in Somerset; Heysham, in Lancashire; and Hartlepool, providing concrete repairs, having completed work at Hunterston and Dungeness power stations.

The concrete repairs and associated work are part of British Energy's routine ongoing maintenance of the power stations. Keeping the concrete regularly repaired and properly cared for protects the structural integrity of the power stations, ensuring safe and efficient operation.

This important investment is part of British Energy's ongoing commitment to exploring extensions to its stations' operating lifetimes - Heysham 1 is due to close in 2014.

The work helps to reduce the risk of any form of breach or erosion to buildings which are expensive to replace and are built with an extensive lifespan in mind.

The Rok Stonecare team carries out work across the UK from its new base in Rotherham, having recently relocated from Wakefield. Founded more than 40 years ago, the Stonecare team is a specialist provider of concrete repair, strengthening and protection services and external facade refurbishment.

These jobs for British Energy at Hinkley Point B, Hartlepool and Heysham, which are the latest in a partnership which stretches back eight years, take place when areas are shut down to allow access.

Dewi Miller, Rok Stonecare Team Leader said: "To ensure that energy supplies to end users are not disrupted, the power stations are kept running, with areas shut down for a minimum length of time when work is required. This means we have to get in, do the job, and get out, quickly and safely. Our ability to do this time and again has enabled our relationship with British Energy to flourish. We are required to work in a sensitive and security conscious environment and we have built this into our operations."
