ODA Launch New Plans For West Ham Station

New plans announced by the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) for West Ham Station will leave a legacy of road improvements, better landscaping and widened footpaths.

West Ham Station is one of the main stations that spectators will use during the Games. Plans are being published this week to seek views from local residents and commuters who use the station.

ODA Transport Director Hugh Sumner said: "West Ham is a key station that will enable spectators to get straight onto the Greenway and up to the Olympic Park from the District and Hammersmith & City lines. Our plans will make sure that spectators, regular commuters and residents can safely use West Ham and that unnecessary congestion in the station or nearby roads will be avoided.

"To do this we are building a temporary walkway, and will make permanent improvements to the station and the surrounding area that will benefit residents and commuters long after the Games."

The proposed changes will ensure the station can cope with the influx of spectators travelling to the Olympic Park on the District and Hammersmith & City lines.

The ODA plans to get all passengers directly from those platforms onto the Greenway and towards the Olympic Park, without them having to pass through the station itself.

This will involve building a temporary walkway spanning the eastbound track of the District & Hammersmith and City Lines and Manor Road. A footpath from the end of the walkway will take spectators onto the Greenway to walk up to the Olympic Park in Stratford.

Building this temporary walkway will allow regular commuters and residents to follow their usual route through the station with minimal disruption.
