ISG Jackson has secured its latest project under an influential £400 million, four year framework deal with affordable homes provider, Swan Housing Group.
The contractor has commenced work on a £4 million scheme to build 42 affordable and shared ownership houses and apartments in Southend-on-Sea, Essex.
The project sees the contractor develop five individual sites across the town, formally occupied by garage blocks, building a mix of traditionally constructed houses and apartments up to three-storeys in height. Demolition work has now been completed and construction of the houses, providing two to four bedroom accommodation, and the new flats, in one and two bedroom configurations, has now commenced. The overall development, which will achieve a Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 standard, is scheduled for completion by autumn 2009.
Phillip Allerton, Director of ISG Jackson's Living division, commented: "Increasingly housing associations and local councils are working together to develop underused sites and turn these into much needed affordable and shared ownership housing schemes. These infill sites present a range of challenges to the contractor in terms of logistics and accessibility; however ISG Jackson is able to directly apply experience and expertise from our numerous social housing frameworks to develop robust and effective programmes that deliver to our clients' expectations."
