Gammon Construction, Balfour Beatty's joint venture company in South East Asia, has been awarded a £230 million contract by the Hong Kong Director of Highways for the reconstruction and improvement of a 6.8 kilometre section of the Tuen Mun road. The contract involves the re-construction and re-alignment of Tuen Mun road between Tsuen Wan and Tsuing Lung Tan to expressway standards. The works include the widening of traffic lanes to expressway standard width, provision of hard shoulders and verges, construction of highway structures and associated environmental mitigation measures, drainage works, slope works and landscaping works.
Balfour Beatty Communities, Balfour Beatty's US PPP subsidiary, has reached financial close for an initial five-year £105 million development period for a privately financed military housing project at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. The initial five-year development period is part of a 50-year PPP concession for the design, development, construction, renovation and maintenance of 850 housing units at Fort Jackson, and is the company’s 16th such PPP concession.
Balfour Beatty Chief Executive, Ian Tyler said: "These major contract awards further enhance our leading position in the construction markets of Hong Kong and Singapore and mark another success for Balfour Beatty Communities which we acquired in May this year.
"Infrastructure investment in Hong Kong and Singapore is accelerating, particularly in the transport sector and Gammon's position as the largest construction company in Hong Kong and a major player in Singapore provides exciting potential for further growth."
