Construction firm Lovell is giving two teenagers the chance to build careers in the construction industry as it carries out major housing improvement works in Norwich.

Trainee carpenter Joe Jackson and trainee bricklayer Matty Smith have both joined the company under its apprenticeship scheme.

Joe, 19, is learning his trade with Lovell at its site in All Saints Green, Norwich, where it is creating the new £2.5 million state-of-the-art YMCA residency, comprising 34-bedrooms with en suite facilities for young women and men on behalf of Flagship Housing Group. The scheme is due for completion later this year.

Matty, 18, is working for the company in Reepham on a £4 million, 26-home development which will create homes for rent and shared ownership for housing group Circle Anglia as well as homes for open market sale. In addition, Lovell is building ten affordable homes for Flagship Housing Group at the Reepham site.

In addition to their work on site, Joe and Matty both attend the Lovell Craft Academy, the company’s national apprentice training centre based within Stephenson College in Coalville, Leicestershire, on a block release basis where they are studying for NVQ Level II qualifications in carpentry and bricklaying respectively.

Both joined Lovell after the company visited City College in Norwich to talk to students about careers in construction.
