Chesterfield Borough Council has secured a further £660k in partnership funding from the Alliance SSP to repair properties in the town centre.
The Chesterfield Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) now has a potential £2.1 million to invest in the town centre. The money will be added to funds from a £750k Heritage Lottery grant, the Council's allocation of £125k plus a further £100k secured last year from the Alliance SSP.
The THI is a grant scheme for properties in a target area of Chesterfield town centre that looks to repair and regenerate both the historic fabric and the economy of the town centre. 30 properties have been identified as priorities because of their importance to the appearance of the town centre and the boost it will give to the physical and economic regeneration of the area.
The Council's Heritage Champion, Cllr David Stone said: "This money will not only go towards improving the appearance of our historic buildings but will revive the use of the buildings and help the economic output for the town."
Works funded under the grant will use appropriate techniques, traditional methods of construction and high quality natural or traditional materials.
