Construction News Image
Leading support services and construction company Carillion has finished a newly constructed parallel route in Brierley Hill for clients Dudley Council.

On Monday, motorists and road users were able to access the full length of the new road for the first time.

The phased opening, which started at 10.30am, saw the signals at Asda Brierley Hill junction switched on first, followed by all other signals along the route.

Motorists and other road users have been advised to take care in the area while new road layouts and traffic signals are observed.

Members of the public have been reminded that the top of Mill Street between the parallel route and the High Street in a northerly direction is accessible by buses only. Similarly, Dudley Road is accessible to buses only in a southerly direction towards the High Street.

Councillor Angus Adams, Cabinet Member for Transportation, said: "I am delighted that the new road has opened successfully and I would like to congratulate all involved.

"I'm sure the parallel route will bring many benefits to the town and surrounding area."

John Sterland, Carillion Civil Engineering Contracts Manager said: "We're glad to be part of this successful project which is hoped will benefit both residents and visitors alike to the area."

The official opening of the new road will take place on 6 November 2008.
